Obituary for William A. Davis
William A. Davis, age 94, of Caldwell, Ohio, died Wednesday, April 9, 2014, at Summit Acres Nursing Home in Caldwell. He was born September 28, 1919, in Cambridge, son of the late Arthur and Carrie Ethel Nicholson Davis. He was a World War II United States Army veteran, having served in the European Theater. He fought at the Battle of the Bulge, where he was wounded. He was promoted to communications sergeant with a staff sergeant rating until the end of the war. He was awarded the Purple Heart, three Bronze Stars, a Good Conduct Ribbon, and two Oak Leaf Clusters. He was employed by Worl Thompson Motors in 1948, and then along with his wife, Etta, took over the business in 1962. He retired in 1988. Bill was a member of the Caldwell United Methodist Church, where he was an active member in many areas of the congregation. He was also a former member and past president of the Noble County Chamber of Commerce, a member of the Community Savings board in Caldwell, and a member of the Regional Advertising Board for the Chrysler Corporation. He was also an active participant in the creation of the The Wilds. One of his greatest pleasures was taking fishing trips to Canada with his friends. Bill loved his family, and his many grandchildren were blessed to experience Grandpa love thoughout their growing up years.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Etta V. Thompson Davis, whom he married February 11, 1939, and who died January 10, 2000; his mother and father-in-law, Worl and Madge Thompson; his siblings, Edna Miller, Mary House, Robert Davis, Roberta Stiers, Juanita Bell, Calvin Davis, Richard Davis, and Harold Davis; and one son-in-law, F. Dale McMullen.

Surviving are two daughters, Judith McMullen and Jaqueline (James) Singer, both of Caldwell; a special niece, Malauna (Art) Zang; six grandchildren, Meg (George) Haller, Krista (Pat) Schoeppner, Kim (Walter) Schulisch, Molly Watson, Bill (Chris) Singer, and Christopher (Donna) Watson; 10 great-grandchildren, Nicole (Dan) Paoly, Heidi Schoeppner, Phillip Schoeppner (Whitney Garvin), Kelsey Haller, Kirsten Haller, Ibi Watson, Ashley Robert, Allison Roberts, Cara Singer, and Noah Singer; two-step-grandchildren, Tyler Hurst and Ryan Seletyn; 3 great-great-grandchildren, Jillian, Oliver, and Annabelle Paoly; one sister-in-law, Rose Ann Davis; and many nieces and nephews.

Friends may call Saturday, April 12, 2014, from 4-8PM at McVay-Perkins Funeral Home, 416 East Street, Caldwell, where the funeral service will be observed Sunday, April 13th at 1:30PM with Pastor Gary Fitzgerald officiating. A veteran’s graveside service will follow at Olive Cemetery, conducted by the Noble County Veteran Service Organizations.
