Obituary for Jean Smith
Jean Smith, age 67, of Belle Valley, Ohio, died Thursday, August 8, 2013, at Summit Acres Nursing Home in Caldwell. She was born October 20, 1945, in England, daughter of the late Oscar and Florence Jean Ward Niswonger, and the father who raised her, Robert H. Lori. She was formerly employed by NCR in Cambridge, and she retired as a cook from the Golden Plaza in Belle Valley, where she was known for her secret cole slaw recipe. She was a member of the American Legion Auxilliary Post # 641, for which she served as past district president and past unit president. She loved bingo, reading, and visiting Amish country. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Everett F. “Pete” Smith, whom she married in March, 1978, and who died August 22, 2012; one daughter, Kimberly K. Hesson; one granddaughter, Kiera Hesson; and one brother, Robert L. Lori. Surviving are three daughters, Denise R. (Brian) Clark of Caldwell, Amanda K. Glasgow of North Carolina, and Kelly J. (Jonathan) Mika of Caldwell; two sisters, Heleanna M. (Dr. A.C.) Smith of Cincinnati, and Marguerite Boney of Summerfield; one brother-in-law, Robert C. Smith of Joliet, Illinois; 10 grandchildren, Adam, Sandi, Jordan, Sara, Megan, Kelsey, Brandon, Haylee, Emily, and Karrie; 4 great-grandchildren, Cole, Kiera, Abigail, and Silas; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. Friends may call Sunday, August 11, 2013, from 4-8PM at McVay-Perkins Funeral Home, 416 East Street, Caldwell, where the funeral service will be observed Monday, August 12th at 11AM with Rev. Fr. Wayne Morris officiating. Burial will follow at Halley’s Ridge Cemetery near Ava.
