Obituary for Joseph George Serdy
Joseph George Serdy, age 91, of Caldwell, Ohio, died Sunday, July 28, 2013, at Summit Acres Nursing Home in Caldwell. He was born October 4, 1921, in Duquesne, Pennsylvania, son of the late Andrew and Rose Baranchik Serdy. He was a United States Army Air Corp veteran, having served during World War II in the South Pacific Theater. He was a retired farmer, and he was a cemetery caretaker for Mt. Olivet, Mt. Calvary, Hoskinsville, and Orthodox Cemeteries in Noble County. He was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Belle Valley, and the Belle Valley American Legion Post # 641. He loved hunting and he enjoyed playing cards. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Eileen H. Mizik Serdy, who died in April, 1990; one daughter, Kathy Ann Serdy; 1 sister; and 10 brothers. Surviving are his children, Judy E. West of Nashville, Tennessee, Teresa R. Mazgay, James Joseph (Sheila) Serdy, David Anthony Serdy, and Jerry Lee Serdy, all of Caldwell, and Jeffrey Michael (Svitlana) Serdy of Apache Junction, Arizona; one sister, Margaret (Tony) Lamorte of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; one brother, Bernard Serdy of Pittsburgh, Pennysylvania; 22 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Friends may call Tuesday, July 30, 2013, from 6-9PM at McVay-Perkins Funeral Home, 416 East Street, Caldwell, where the funeral service will be observed Wednesday, July 31, 2013, at 11:30AM with Rev. Fr. Wayne Morris officiating. An inurnment service will be observed Sunday, August 4, at 1PM at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Belle Valley with a veteran’s graveside service conducted by the Noble County Veteran Service Organizations.
