Obituary for Olive Elo Duffin
Olive Elo Duffin, age 102, passed away peacefully Thursday, July 8th, 2010, at Red Carpet Health Care Center in Cambridge, Ohio. She was born in 1908, daughter of the late James E. and Mary Morris Willis. She was raised on a farm in Brookfield Township, Noble County, Ohio, and became a school teacher. She then moved to Chicago, Illinois, where she met and married her husband Howard, to whom she was married for 51 years. They later moved to Bloomington-Normal, Illinois, where they remained for 36 years. She worked as a secretary and claims adjustor for the State of Illinois and was a member of First Christian Church in Bloomington. Elo and her husband travelled extensively throughout the United States and the world, including Canada, Mexico, Spain, Europe, Japan, The Holy Land, Australia, New Zealand, and South America. She was active in her church and many civic organizations, including the Organ Club, Camera Club, AARP, and Wednesday Quilting Club. At age 94, she was still driving her friends to various appointments.
In addition to her parents and her husband, she is preceded in death by one sister, Hilma Willis; and one brother, Elmer (Bessie) Willis.
Surviving are one sister, Mary E. (Charles) Coyle; one niece, Dianne (Charles) Jones; four nephews, James (Ruth) Coyle, David (Patsy) Coyle, Gary (Cheryl) Coyle, and Lee (Laura) Coyle; 9 great-nephews; 4 great-nieces; and 15 great-great-nieces and nephews.
There will be no visitation. An open casket graveside service will be observed Sunday, July 11, 2010, at 3PM at Sharon Cemetery in Sharon, Ohio.
