Obituary for Kathleen H. Buckey
Kathleen H. Buckey, age 93, died Tuesday, October 21, 2014 in Sacramento, California. She was born December 30, 1920 in Norfolk, Virginia a daughter of the late Vivian and Helen Hamm Haggood. Her father being a member of the United States Navy, she grew up in various cities, including Seattle, Washington; Pensacola, Florida; and Honolulu, Hawaii. Mrs. Buckey graduated , at age 16, from Maryknoll High School in Honolulu. She went on to earn a degree in Economics from the University of Washington at age 20. On September 11, 1942 she married Loren Buckey in Long Beach, California, where Mr. Buckey was stationed with the United States Army Air Corps. Kathleen was an invaluable help to her husband throughout his military career, until his retirement in 1961. In 1967 the Buckey’s moved to Sacramento, California; Mr. Buckey to pursuing a career as an attorney, and Mrs. Buckey as a real estate agent.
Sixty-five years after the start of their highly successful marriage, Mr. Buckey died on March 20, 2008.
Mrs. Buckey is survived by her six children, Ann (Jeff) Marshall of Bozeman, Montana; Michele Vinson of Eugene, Oregon, Daniel Buckey of Sacramento, California, David (Pam) Buckey of Sacramento, California, Claire Buckey of Sacramento, California and William Buckey of Alexandria, Virginia; two sisters, Elizabeth (Robert) Helfrich of Salinas, California and Vivian LaMont of Towson, Maryland; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and twelve nieces and nephews. The family wishes to gratefully acknowledge the care and assistance provided Mrs. Buckey by Linda Leonard over the past year.
A memorial mass will be celebrated on Saturday, June 13, 2015 at 11 AM at St. Stephen Catholic Church, 1036 Belford Street, Caldwell, Ohio 43724, with the Rev. Fr. Wayne Morris, celebrant. Inurnment will follow at Halley’s Ridge Cemetery near Ava, Ohio.
