Obituary for Betty Lou Goodwill
Betty Lou Goodwill, of Caldwell, Ohio, formerly of Elba, died Sunday, February 25, 2018, at Marietta Memorial Hospital. She was born July 30, 1929, in Elba, daughter of the late Albert Emmerson and Florence L. Reed Swain. She was a 1947 graduate of Macksburg High School, and she was employed as a clerk for the Elba and Macksburg Post Offices. Betty attended the Elba Community Church and the Macksburg United Methodist Church, and she was a member of the Pythian Sisters at Macksburg and the Dexter City American Legion Auxiliary. She loved to crochet.
She is preceded in death by her husband, P. Dickson Goodwill, whom she married November 10, 1948, and who died May 24, 2001; one son, Darrell Lee Goodwill, who died in 2014; one grandchild; one sister, Pauline Boord; and two brothers, Warren Swain and Earl Swain.
Surviving are her children, Larry David (Jackie) Goodwill of Marietta and Denise Lynn Christmas of Sarahsville; a daughter-in-law, Debbie Goodwill of Lowell; two brothers, Robert Swain of Toledo and Frank (Marsha) Swain of Dexter City; 3 sisters-in-law, Rosemary (Gary) Vincent of Belpre, Doris Kirkbride of New Concord and Ethel Hendershot of Marietta; 4 grandchildren; 2 step-grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; 4 step-great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; and her friend and companion, Ken Scheich of Caldwell.
Friends may call Wednesday, February 28, 2018, from 2-4 and 6-8PM at McVay-Perkins Funeral Home, 416 East Street, Caldwell, where the funeral service will be observed Thursday, March 1st at 1PM with John Schafer officiating. Burial will follow at Lund Cemetery in Mackburg. Memorial contributions may be made to the Macksburg United Methodist Church, 390 Mechanic Street, Macksburg, Ohio, 45746.
