Obituary for Howard C. Nau
Howard C. Nau, age 77, of Caldwell, Ohio, died Wednesday, January 4, 2017, at his home. He was born February 2, 1939, in Dexter City, son of the late William A. and Bertha A. Fogle Nau. He was a 1957 graduate of Dexter City High School, and he was a veteran and member of the Ohio National Guard. Howard retired from the former Mahle plant in Caldwell, and he was a member and past president of the United Steel Workers Local #4836 in Caldwell. He owned and operated a family farm for many years. He was a member of the Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Belle Valley and sang in its choir, and he was a co-founder and co-chairman for the Noble County Habitat for Humanity. He was also a member of Noble County Performing Arts. Howard loved children, and he was known as a beloved Santa Claus in the community during the holidays. He loved music and singing, riding in his buggy, and enjoying his cabin by the pond. He also enjoyed his beloved farm and cattle. But most of all, he loved his wife, his children, his grandchildren, and his many friends. Howard was known for his faith and compassion. He was an ordinary man who lived an extraordinary life.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by one son, Alan Dale Nau, who died in March, 1980; and one sister, Mary Nau Pilcher, who died in December, 2001.

Surviving are his wife, Ruth M. Lantz Nau, whom he married September 7, 1963; three daughters, Melissa A. Nau (Aaron Daniels) of Cambridge, Michele L. (Galen) Bates of Sarahsville, and Carla M. (Jeff) Nau-Redman of Bauschheim, Germany; his siblings, Ramona Tornes and Rita Fulton, both of Waterford, Robert (Patty) Nau of Pleasant City, and Patty (Lewis) Lang of Marietta; five grandchildren, Gabrielle Bates (Hannah Trew), Wade Bates (Courtney Howell and her children, Ashley, Emma, and Danica), Samuel Bates, Xander Daniels, and Luke Daniels; many nieces, nephews, and cousins; and many friends.

Friends may call Saturday, January 7, 2017, from 5-8PM at McVay-Perkins Funeral Home, 416 East Street, Caldwell, and Sunday, January 8th from 2-8PM at St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Fulda, where a vigil service will follow visitation at 8PM. Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be observed Monday, January 9th at 10AM at St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. Wayne Morris as celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Parish Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Noble County Habitat for Humanity, P.O. Box 223, Belle Valley, Ohio, 43717, or to the Belle Valley Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 16, Belle Valley, Ohio, 43717.
