Obituary for Martha Kathryn Patten
Martha Kathryn Patten, age 92, went home to be with the Lord whom she served many years Saturday, November 19, 2016, at her home. She was born November 24, 1923, in Dudley, daughter of the late Dewey and Mary Ellen Finnegan Sanford. She was a 1941 graduate of Caldwell High School, and she attended Ohio State University. She was a teacher at Forrest Grove High School, and she was also a secretary for the Marietta Chair Company. Martha was a devoted mother and homemaker, and a woman of tremendous faith. For most of her adult life, she was a member of First Baptist Church in Caldwell, and later became of member of Twin Rivers Baptist Church in Marietta. She taught Sunday School for many years, and she was involved in Vacation Bible School programs. She also volunteered at Pine Lake Camp in Caldwell, and she was a member of the Gideon’s Women’s Auxiliary and the Jenny James Missionary Society. She enjoyed being a part of many church ministries. Martha helped care for her parents and in-laws, and she was known for her homemade bread and sticky rolls.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by one daughter, Peggy Louellen Patten; one brother, Dwight Sanford; and one sister-in-law, Garnet Sanford.
Surviving are her husband, Charlie Patten, whom she married June 7, 1947; four children, Randy W. (Cindy) Patten of Noblesville, Indiana, Jerry S. (Connie) Patten of Valparaiso, Indiana, Brenda K. (Jim) Edmisten of Pennsboro, West Virginia, and Roger A. (Tresa) Patten of Caldwell; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Friends may call Monday, November 21, 2016, from 4-8PM at McVay-Perkins Funeral Home, 416 East Street, Caldwell, and Tuesday, November 22nd from 9AM-12PM at Twin Rivers Baptist Church, 110 D.A.V. Road, Whipple, where the funeral service will follow visitation Tuesday at 12PM with Pastor Jeff Baumer officiating. Burial will follow at Dudley Cemetery.
