Obituary for Wilma N. Swain
Wilma N. Swain, age 94, of Caldwell, Ohio, died Sunday, September 14, 2014, at her home. She was born December 8, 1919, in Caldwell, daughter of the late George E. and Lucetta Ruth Greathouse Harper. She was a graduate of Dexter City High School, and she was a retired cook, having been employed by Marietta College, Dexter City School, and Caldwell Elementary School. She owned and operated a concession trailer, selling Swain’s Homemade Fudge, Lemonade, and Cotton Candy. She also crafted handmade rugs for many years. She was a member of the Senecaville United Methodist Church, the Dexter City Community Club, and the Aurelius Chapter #60, Order of the Eastern Star. She enjoyed working jigsaw puzzles and word puzzles.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Alfred V. Swain, whom she married June 15, 1937, and who died August 21, 1998; one daughter, Lucetta Jane Swain; one grandson, Alfred Ronald Swain; two sisters, Winifred Brinkley and Willa Glass; and four brothers, Woodrow, Wiley, Wayne, and Willard Harper.
Surviving are four sons, Alfred E. “Butch” (Martha) Swain, William D. (Martha) Swain, and Daniel E. (Cheryl) Swain, all of South Olive, and James S. (Cheryl) Swain of Senecaville; one sister, Wava Whetstone of Caldwell; 6 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; many great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
A graveside service will be observed Thursday, September 18, 2014, at 1PM at South Olive Cemetery. McVay-Perkins Funeral Home, 416 East Street, Caldwell, is caring for the family.
