Obituary for William J. "Toppy" Buckey
William J. “Toppy” Buckey, age 88, of Caldwell, Ohio, formerly of Ava, died Thursday, April 18, 2019, at The Beckett House in New Concord. He was born July 14, 1930, in Noble County, son of the late William T. and Kathleen Kirk Buckey. He was retired as a machine operator for the Glacier Vandervell plant in Caldwell, and he attended Reagan’s Chapel United Methodist Church. Toppy loved collecting antique clocks and attending yard sales.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Rea Tarcella Leasure Buckey, whom he married January 6, 1951, and who died June 25, 1996; one daughter, Gail Wheeler; two sisters, Virginia Ginn and Betty Wood; and one brother, Richard “Bud” Buckey.
Surviving are his children, Vickie J. (Mike) Somers of Zanesville and Mike R. (Linda) Buckey and Dale J. Buckey (Nancy Archer), all of Caldwell; his siblings, Sam Buckey of Cambridge, James (Janice) Buckey of Mansfield, Sarah Rock of Hebron, Mark Buckey of Tennessee, David Buckey of Oklahoma, and Paul Buckey of Tennessee; 8 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Friends may call Saturday, April 20, 2019, from 11AM-12PM at McVay-Perkins Funeral Home, 416 East Street, Caldwell. A graveside service will follow visitation at Halley’s Ridge Cemetery at 12:30PM with Ken Perkins officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Halley’s Ridge Cemetery Association, c/o Sandy Carter, 52013 Nicholson Road, Pleasant City, Ohio, 43772.
