He was born December 24, 1955, in Parkersburg, West Virginia, son of Therma “Windy” Bickerstaff Barnhart of Caldwell and the late William E. Bickerstaff, who died in October, 1988. He was known in Cajun country as a musician who played his violin, Caroline, and his electric fiddle, Adeleah. He enjoyed playing several nights a week with a rock-n-roll band, at church on Sunday, and in the parish chamber orchestra where he was first violin.

Surviving in addition to his mother are his children, Digna Pangaley, Jackelyn Pangaley, Jannette Bickerstaff, Anna Bickerstaff, and John Bickerstaff; his siblings, Deidre (Jeff) Tracewell, David (Tammy) Bickerstaff, Douglas (Tracey) Bickerstaff, and Damon (Cherylinn) Bickerstaff; 13 grandchildren; several nieces and nephews, and his step-father, Jack Barnhart.
