William D. “Dean” Banks, age 82, of Caldwell, Ohio, died Wednesday, August 9, 2023, at Southeastern Medical Center in Cambridge. He was born June 6, 1941, in Asheville, North Carolina, son of the late Jeff and Mildred Chapman Banks. Dean was a graduate of Owen High School in Asheville and he was a United States Air Force veteran, having served during the Vietnam War. He retired in 1998 as a facility loop maintainer for General Telephone. Dean was a founding member of the Caldwell Church of Christ and enjoyed being a member of the McDonald’s Coffee Club. He loved woodworking, gardening and farming, especially raising chickens. He was devoted to his family.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Sue Frederickson Banks, whom he married June 8, 1963; his children, Pamela S. (John) Goodwin of Cambridge and William J. Banks of Caldwell; three grandchildren, Katelyn (Pete) Messer of Cambridge, Cameron Goodwin (fiancé, Tessa Clarke) of Zanesville, and Collin Banks of Caldwell; two great-grandchildren, Miah Messer and Leo William Messer; his siblings, Peggy Reel of Marion, North Carolina, and Donald (Mary Ann) Banks and Steve (Debbie) Banks, all of Asheville, North Carolina; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Friends may call Saturday, August 12, 2023, from 4-8PM at McVay-Perkins Funeral Home, 416 East Street, Caldwell, where the funeral service will be observed Sunday, August 13th at 2PM with Pastor Kris Bright officiating. A veteran’s graveside service will follow at Sharon Cemetery conducted by the Noble County Veteran’s Service Organizations. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital at www.stjude.org.
