Obituary for Virginia Jennings Davis
Virginia Jennings Davis, age 92, died September 2, 2011, at Summit Acres Nursing Home in Caldwell where she had been a patient for a year. Virginia was born in Sharon, Ohio, in August of 1919. She was the daughter of Charles Jennings and Gila Parks Jennings. When she was a young woman, the family moved to New Concord, Ohio, where she graduated from high school. She furthered her education by graduating from the Bethesda Hospital School of Nursing in 1944. She nursed for 35 years, both in Zanesville and Dayton, Ohio.
Mrs. Davis was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Graydon, and sisters Donella and Bettie. She was also preceded in death by her first husband, Walter Weber, who died in 1975.
She is survived by her husband of 22 years, Ralph Davis, who resides at Summit Acres. She has one daughter, Lyn (Bob) Wilkinson of Vincent, Ohio, and one granddaughter, Meredythe (Ben) Hutchinson of Costa Mesa, California. She has one step-son, Jim (Ky) of Chandlersville. There are three step-granddaughters: Janna, Samantha, and Taylor, all of the Zanesville area.
Virginia enjoyed traveling. Together with Ralph, they visited all of the lower 48 states. She and her husband drove to Arizona and California five times to visit her sister and daughter after they were in their 70s. She also enjoyed embroidery and lap quilting, and embellished many items with her stitchery. She was a devoted mother and grandma who often said that "you shouldn't have children or pets unless you mean to spoil them." She did that. We will miss her.
At her request, there will be no services. She will be remembered with a private burial at a later time. McVay-Perkins Funeral Home, 416 East Street, Caldwell, is caring for the family.
