Obituary for Vernon Leo Schoeppner, Sr.
Vernon Leo Schoeppner, Sr., age 86, of Cambridge, Ohio, formerly of Caldwell, died Thursday, October 5, 2017, at Summit Acres Nursing Home in Caldwell. He was born April 18, 1931, in Zanesville, son of the late Albert G. and Marie Bishop Schoeppner. Vernon was a graduate of Caldwell High School. He was employed by A. G. Schoeppner Construction Company in Caldwell and later by Pennock Brothers Construction in Beverly. He retired as a carpenter for Crock Construction Company in Caldwell. Vernon was a member of St. Stephen Catholic Church in Caldwell and the Guernsey County Senior Citizens. He enjoyed playing cards, going to flea markets and auctions, and he loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Shirley A. Gould Schoeppner, whom he married May 5, 1951, and who died January 29, 2001; one son, Vernon L. Schoeppner, Jr.; one great-grandson, Slade Xavier Spencer; and his siblings, Melvin Schoeppner, Ralph Schoeppner, Norman Schoeppner, Arlene Eller, and Leona Schell.
Surviving are two sons, John M. (Carla) Schoeppner of Caldwell and Eric G. (Cynthia) Schoeppner of Kimbolton; his siblings, Howard Schoeppner of Caldwell, Cletus (Sophia) Schoeppner of Zanesville, Vera Doll of Indianapolis, Indiana, and Dolores Snider of Caldwell; 4 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Friends may call Thursday, October 12, 2017, from 11AM-1PM at McVay-Perkins Funeral Home, 416 East Street, Caldwell, where the funeral service will follow visitation at 1PM with Pastor Dale Hunt and Rev. Fr. Wayne Morris officiating. Inurnment will follow at Hoskinsville Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society at www.cancer.org, or to P.O.
