Obituary for V. Jean Ramsey

V. Jean Ramsey, age 96, of Caldwell, Ohio, died Friday, February 28, 2025, at Altercare Summit Acres. She was born January 28, 1929, in Zanesville, daughter of the late M. Calvin and M. Clarice Danford Mendenhall. Jean was a 1946 graduate of Forest Grove High School. Over the years, she was employed by Dimmerling’s City Restaurant, Garvin’s Restaurant, the K-V Store, Western Auto, Cleveland Graphite Bronze, and Caldwell High School. She served as a babysitter for Brent and Carrie Long and Tristen and Taylor Bickford. Jean was a poll worker for the Noble County Board of Elections and served as a volunteer for Relay for Life. She was a member of the Caldwell Church of Christ, where she was active in church activities, including Vacation Bible School and Ladies Missionary Society. She was a 4-H advisor, a member of the Good Neighbors Club since 1948, a member of the Sharon Grange since 1951, and a member of the Singing Valentines and Noble County Performing Arts for many years. Jean enjoyed crocheting, quilting, flower gardening, playing the piano and square dancing, and playing Rook.


In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Herbert W. Ramsey, whom she married in 1946 and who died in 1991; two daughters, Peggy L. (Robert) Snyder and Brenda L. Halberstadt; two sons, John Herbert Ramsey and Gregory Lee Ramsey; two sisters, Janet F. Bertram and Geneva J. Foraker; and one brother, C. Merritt Mendenhall.


Surviving are one son, Jerry A. (Brenda) Ramsey of Summerfield; four granddaughters, Jennifer L. (Michael) Kellogg of Rome, Amy L. Cain of Caldwell, Amber N. Ramsey of Caldwell, and Jennifer E. (Jeremy) Stotts of Beverly; 5 great-grandchildren; a son-in-law, Paul Halberstadt of Zanesville; several nieces and nephews; and special friends, Galen and Candie Long of Caldwell.


Friends may call Tuesday, March 4, 2025, from 11AM-1PM at McVay-Perkins Funeral Home, 416 East Street, Caldwell, where the funeral service will follow visitation at 1PM with Pastor Kris Bright officiating. Burial will follow at Sharon Cemetery.
