Susan J. Sumner, age 67, of Zanesville, Ohio, died Friday, June 19, 2020, at Genesis Hospital in Zanesville. She was born March 15, 1953, in Marietta, daughter of the late George Lee and Bertha Novella Ball Clark. She was a 1971 graduate of Shenandoah High School. Susan worked at various jobs over the years and she retired as a janitorial supervisor at Rural King in Zanesville. She was a charter member of the Caldwell Women of the Moose, Chapter #536, and a member of the Dexter City American Legion Auxiliary #418. She was also a lifetime Girl Scout leader. Susan enjoyed flowers, traveling to casinos and playing dice, and she loved to spend time with her grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Joe S. “Pappy” Sumner, who died April 18, 2016.
She is survived by her children, Debra Sue Poulton of New Concord and Kristina Dawn Poulton of Zanesville; her siblings, Wayne E. (Sharon) Clark of Caldwell, Linda K. (Oneal) Lochridge of Hamilton, Mississippi, Russell A. (Shelia) Clark and Barbara J. (Steve) Grywalski, all of Sarahsville, and James L. (Lisa) Clark of Cumberland; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, with one great-grandchild to be born soon; several nieces and nephews; several aunts, uncles, and cousins; and her beloved poodle, Sophie Sue.
A graveside service will be observed by the family at Ogle’s Ridge Cemetery at a later time. McVay-Perkins Funeral Home, 416 East Street, Caldwell, is caring for the family. Friends are encouraged to share memories, pictures, and messages of support at www.mcvay-perkins.com
