Obituary for Sterling D. McCauley
Sterling D. McCauley, age 83, of Belle Valley, Ohio, died Thursday, September 17, 2015, at Summit Acres Nursing Home in Caldwell. He was born September 6, 1932, in Olive Twp., Noble County, son of the late Howard and Marvel Hupp McCauley. He was a 1950 graduate of Caldwell High School, and he was a United States Navy veteran, having served during the Korean War aboard the U.S.S. Sicily and the U.S.S. Catamount. He retired as an engineering department foreman for Glacier Vandervell following 36 years of service. He was a life member and past commander of the Caldwell VFW Post # 4721, and a member of the Sharon Lodge #136, F&AM, the Valley of Cambridge, AASR, the Cambridge Royal Arch Masons, the Kambri Shrine Club in Cambridge, the Alladin Temple Shrine in Columbus, and the Boy Scouts of America Troop #580 in Belle Valley, where he also served as a troop leader. Mr. McCauley formerly served as mayor of Belle Valley. He loved to watch football, especially the Ohio State Buckeyes, and he loved to fish.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by two sisters, Virginia Griffen and Violet Kovach; one brother, Blaine McCauley; and one daughter-in-law, Patricia Cartell.

Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Helen I. Caldwell McCauley, whom he married August 9, 1958; his children, Samuel L. Cartell of Caldwell, David A. (Debbie) Cartell of Sharon, Brenda E. Dunno of Columbus, Daniel R. Cartell of West Chester, Gary D. Cartell of Fremont, LuAnn Cartell of Cambridge, Douglas S. (Maggie) McCauley of Clyde, and Teresa D. McCauley of Columbus; one sister, Bonnie Bailey of Belle Valley; one brother, Paul McCauley of San Jose, California; 8 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call Monday, September 21, 2015, from 2-4 and 6-8PM at McVay-Perkins Funeral Home, 416 East Street, Caldwell, where a Masonic service will be observed at 7:30PM. The funeral service will be observed Tuesday, September 22nd at 1PM with Pastor Larry Copley officiating. A military graveside service will follow at Sharon Cemetery conducted by the Noble County Veteran Services Organizations.
