Obituary for Sigmund Sidney Sarkady
Sigmund Sidney Sarkady, age 75, of Melbourne Beach, Florida, passed away March 1, 2014, at his home. He was born December 17, 1938, in Cleveland, son of the late Zigmond and Helen Wilma Pleasnick Sarkady. He was a 1956 graduate of Old Washington High School, and he attended Kent State University and he was a member of its Army ROTC. He was a United States Army veteran, having served at Fort Knox, and he was employed by the U.S. Postal Service in Florida for 30 years. He attended the Mt. Ephraim United Methodist Church, and he was a member of the Community Chapel of Melbourne Beach. He was a life member of the Margate Elks Club, and later transferred his membership to the Melbourne Elks Club. Mr. Sarkady was passionate about fly fishing, and he enjoyed fishing in Canada, Pennsylvania, and Ohio with his cousins and the Fly Rod Club of Melbourne, of which he was a member. He was also a member of the Florida Flyfishing Association of Cocoa, Florida, the Social Dance Club, and he was an expert at working crossword puzzles.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by one sister, Kathleen Sarkady, and one brother-in-law, Harold T. Van Scyoc, who both passed in 2011.
Surviving are one sister, Erma Ann Van Scyoc of Caldwell; two nephews, Tom (Debbie) Van Scyoc of Gastonia, North Carolina and Martin (Cindy) Van Scyoc of Sarahsville; two great-nieces, Amanda (Tyler) DeVolld and son, Traxen, and Andrea Van Scyoc, all of Sarahsville; two great-nephews, Jared Van Scyoc of Sarahsville and CPL Stephen (Tatiana) Van Scyoc and son, Wesley, of Lake Elsinore, California; special friends, Carl and Janet Duch of Senecaville and Betty Rogers of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, and her daughter Monique Rogers of Durham, North Carolina; his cousins and friends in Ohio; and his many friends in Florida.
Friends may call Saturday, March 8, 2014, from 10:30AM to 12PM at McVay-Perkins Funeral Home, 416 East Street, Caldwell, where the funeral service will follow at 12PM with Ken Perkins officiating.
