Obituary for Ruth T. Pickenpaugh
Ruth T. Pickenpaugh, age 95, of Caldwell, died Tuesday, October 4, 2005, at Marietta Memorial Hospital. She was born April 3, 1910, in Lowell, Ohio, daughter of the late William Boyd and Lillian Davis Tilton. She was a 1927 graduate of Lowell High School, and a 1931 graduate of Marietta College, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Education. She also studied at Muskingum College, Ohio University, and Ohio State University. She was a school teacher for 26 years, teaching at Belle Valley, Sharon, and Brookfield Schools, and she was a substitute teacher at Summerfield. She was also employed as a bookkeeper for the former G.T. Jennings Furniture Store and Transfer for 14 years. Mrs. Pickenpaugh joined the Lowell Methodist Church at the age of 11, and later joined the Caldwell Free Methodist Church in 1932 when the new church building was constructed and dedicated. She was a member of the Caldwell Free Methodist Church for 72 years, and was active in various church offices, including being a delegate to church conferences 26 times. She served as WMS conference officer for 30 years, and was a member of the Retired Teachers Organization, the Womens Christian Temperence Union, and the Gideons Auxilliary. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, Myron Pickenpaugh, who died in 1977; and four brothers, Anson Dale, Ewing, Elbert, and Dewey Tilton. Surviving are two sisters-in-law, Mary Tilton of Homeworth and Ruth Tilton of Lowell; and several nieces and nephews. Friends may call Wednesday, October 5, 2005 from 4-8PM at McVay-Perkins Funeral Home, Caldwell, where the service will be Thursday, October 6, at 1PM with Pastor Dave Wells officiating. Burial will be at Hoskinsville Cemetery at Hoskinsville. Contributions in her memory may be made to the Caldwell Free Methodist Church, 221 Cumberland Street, Caldwell, Ohio 43724.
