Obituary for Ruth E. Merry
Ruth E. Merry, of Caldwell, died Tuesday, October 19, 2004, at Summit Acres Nursing Home, Caldwell. She was born in Hamtramck, Michigan, daughter of the late Charles O. and Elizabeth G. Swyers Evans. She was a graduate of Jackson High School and Rio Grande College, where she earned a BA in Education. She also did post-graduate work at Ohio State University. Mrs. Merry taught elementary school in Jackson, Columbus City Schools, and Caldwell Exempted Village Schools, retiring in 1978. She was a member of the Caldwell United Methodist Church, where she was a Sunday School teacher. She was also a Brownie Troop leader. Mrs. Merry enjoyed golf, bridge, and was a band mother for many years. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Mikela A. Merry, who died June 25, 1997; one brother, Charles Evans, and one sister, Meredith Evans. Surviving are her husband, Myron E. Merry, whom she married in 1949; one son, William E. Merry, M.D., of Chicago; two daughters, Sigrid S. Merry and Lisa K. Merry, both of Caldwell; one sister, Margaret Jane Lambert of Barboursville, West Virginia; and two sisters-in-law, Anne Evans of Galion, Ohio, and Evelyn L. Altenburg of Dublin, Ohio. Friends may call Friday, October 22, 2004 from 7-9PM at McVay-Perkins Funeral Home, Caldwell. Graveside services will be conducted Saturday, October 23, 2004, at 1PM at Olive Cemetery, Caldwell, with Pastor Gary Fitzgerald officiating. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Hospice of Guernsey. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
