Obituary for Roy L. Williams

Roy L. Williams, age 77, of Dover, Ohio, formerly of South Olive, died Tuesday, January 16, 2024, at Country Club Rehabilitation Campus in Dover. He was born July 13, 1946, in Canton, son of the late Rolland and Nora Ball Williams. Roy attended Dexter City High School and was a United States Army veteran, having served in Germany during the Vietnam War. He retired as a forklift operator for Colgate-Palmolive, was formerly employed by Swain Excavating, and was a bus driver for Rolling Hills Local School District in Byesville for 9 years. Roy loved target shooting, watching old western movies, and was a fan of The Ohio State Buckeyes.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his first wife, Donna Parks Williams; an infant son, Kelly Williams; and two brothers, Virgil Williams and Richard Williams.

Surviving are his children, Melissa A. (Chris) Mertes of Twinsburg and Loralee M. (Chris) Touvell of Chesapeake, Virginia; two grandchildren, Ryan J. Mertes and Sara A. Mertes, both of Twinsburg; one brother, H. Lewis Williams of Canton; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; and his beloved grand-dogs.

A celebration of life service will be observed at a later time. A veteran’s graveside service will take place at Dudley Cemetery.
