Obituary for Roy L. Bates
Roy L. Bates, age 90, of Caldwell, Ohio, died Monday, May 5, 2014, at Country View Assisted Living in Lore City. He was born January 29, 1924, in Caldwell, son of the late Linas D. and Rosa King Bates. He was a graduate of Caldwell High School, and he was a World War II Army veteran, having served in the Asia-Pacific Theater. He was a lifelong farmer, having owned and operated the family farm located at Rt. 6 in Caldwell. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, farming, playing the guitar, and he was interested in learning about current events.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by two brothers, Harry Bates and Ray Bates; and an infant sister.
Surviving are two nephews, Hershel (Karen) Bates of Doylestown and Harley (Janice) Bates of Salesville; one grand-niece; and 3 grand-nephews.
Friends may call Thursday May 8, 2014, from 5-8PM at McVay-Perkins Funeral Home, 416 East Street, Caldwell, where the funeral service will be observed Friday, May 9th, at 11AM with Pastor Dave Wells and Pastor Jeremy Hurd officiating. A military graveside service will follow at Olive Cemetery in Caldwell conducted by the Noble County Veteran Service Organizations.
