Obituary for Robert W. Sanford
Robert W. Sanford, age 92, of Caldwell, Ohio, died Wednesday, December 30, 2015, at Marietta Memorial Hospital. He was born February 1, 1923, in Caldwell at the former Thompson Hospital, son of the late Forest Joseph and Estella Belle Wilson Sanford. He was a 1941 graduate of Caldwell High School, and he was a United States Army veteran of World War II, having served in the European Theater. He was employed for many years at Patten’s Appliance in Caldwell, from which he retired. He was a lifelong member of the First Presbyterian Church in Caldwell, having served as an elder and trustee. He was also a member of the Noble County Service Club and the Caldwell VFW Post #4721. Mr. Sanford loved planes, and he enjoyed flying in private planes and collecting model planes.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by one sister, Ethel Jean Sanford Davis; one brother, Ervil Richard Sanford; and one niece, Sue Ellen Davis.
Surviving are one niece, Sharon A. Davis of Caldwell, and several other relatives and friends.
Friends may call Sunday, January 3, 2016, from 1PM-5PM at the First Presbyterian Church, 532 North Street, Caldwell, and Monday from 12PM-1PM at the church, where the funeral service will follow visitation Monday at 1PM with Merlin Wentworth officiating. A veteran’s graveside service will follow at Dudley Cemetery conducted by the Noble County Veteran Service Organizations.
