Obituary for Robert Thomas "Tom" Sklenar
Robert Thomas “Tom” Sklenar, age 68, of Belle Valley, Ohio, died Wednesday, December 3, 2014, at Genesis Good Samaritan Hospital in Zanesville. He was born July 24, 1946, in Belle Valley, son of the late John F. and Catherine Kohut Sklenar. He was a 1965 graduate of Shenandoah High School, which was the very first graduating class at the school. Following high school, he attended welding school in Athens. Mr. Sklenar was a United States Air Force veteran, having served from 1966-1970. He retired in 2012 as a machinist for Seminole Tubular Products in Cambridge. He was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church, and a member of American Legion Post #641, both in Belle Valley. He was an avid fan of the Cincinnati Reds, the Cleveland Browns, and Ohio State sports. He was also an avid wine connoisseur. He loved his dogs and cats.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his son, Matthew Francis Sklenar; and one niece, Dawn Ann Sklenar.
Surviving are his wife, Cheryl J. Johnson Sklenar, whom he married in 1973; one daughter, Heather J. (John) Williams, of Zanesville; three sisters, Emilia Smith of Cumberland, Ann (George) Dougherty of Mesquite, Nevada, and Janice Cunningham (Richard Davis) of Cumberland; one brother, John F. “Sonny” (Sandra) Sklenar of Belle Valley; 9 nieces and nephews; several grand, great-grand, and great-great-grand nieces and nephews; his faithful companion, his Lassa-Poo, Gracie Lynn; and his three beloved cats.
Friends may call Friday, December 5, 2014, from 4-8PM at McVay-Perkins Funeral Home, 416 East Street, Caldwell, where a vigil service will follow visitation at 8PM. Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be observed Saturday, December 6th at 10AM at Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Belle Valley with Rev. Fr. Chester Pabin as celebrant. Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Belle Valley, where a military service will be observed by the Noble County Veteran Service Organizations.
