Obituary for Rev. William Cyrus Irvin
Rev. William Cyrus Irvin (Bill Dugan), age 88, of Caldwell, Ohio went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, on Saturday afternoon (1/22/2005), with all of his children at his bedside at Selby General Hospital in Marietta, Ohio. Rev. Irvin was born 12/20/1916 in Otway, Ohio, a son of the late Charles and Margaret Unger Irvin and the late Sherman and Maggie Dugan. Before he was called to the ministry Mr. Irvin worked in the timber industry. He was a pastor in the Methodist Church having served the Masterton Charge in Lebanon, Ohio; the Somerton Charge in Somerton, Ohio and the Macksburg Charge in Macksburg, Dexter City and Crooked Tree (Mary Reed Memorial), Ohio. Rev. Irvin pastored the Salesville Church of Faith for 6 years and the Schafer's Community Church near Macksburg, Ohio for several years. He also worked as a rural mail carrier for a number of years with the Macksburg and Dexter City, Ohio Post Offices while continuing in the full time ministry. He was a United States Army Veteran of WWII having served as a Medical Technician in the Asian Theater of Operations. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his first wife Margaret A. Cole Irvin who died 3/24/1948; his second wife Wanda M. Andrews Irvin, whom he married 12/20/1949 and who died 8/18/1998; 2 brothers Tommy Thompson and Lemoyne Irvin; and a grandson Matthew Smith. Surviving are 3 sons Rev. Jon (Rev. Betty) Irvin of Stafford, Ohio and family: Larry, Doug, Aaron, Jon II, and Michelle; William E. (Chris) Irvin of Columbus, Ohio and family: Shane, Pierce, and Natalie; James W. (Connie) Irvin of Youngstown, Ohio, and family: Noel, Wesley, Erin, and Christopher; 3 daughters Rev. Maryann (William B., II) Clark of Caldwell; Rev. Ruth E. (Dwain) Smith of Caldwell and family: Brian, Brent, and Mark; Debra K. (Gary) Smith of Caldwell and family: Sarah and Ashley; 14 great -grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; 2 sisters, Olive Pettice of Alvin, Illinois, and Jessie Tatman Garrison of Uhrichsville, Ohio; 2 sisters-in-law, June K. Andrews of Caldwell and Thelma (Gordon) Svelmoe of Escondido, California; numerous nieces and nephews. Friends may call Tuesday (1/25/2005) from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9PM at McVay-Perkins Funeral Home in Caldwell where services will be held at 1:00 PM on Wednesday (1/26/2005) with the Rev. David Wells officiating. Burial will follow at Dudley Cemetery near Caldwell, Ohio. Caldwell Post #4721 VFW and Belle Valley Post #641 American Legion will conduct military graveside services.
