Obituary for Ray C. Smith
Ray C. Smith, age 73, of Sarahsville, Ohio, died Saturday, September 14, 2013, at his home. He was born January 3, 1940, in Sarahsville, son of the late Jesse and Mary Edna Willey Smith. He was a 1958 graduate of Sarahsville High School, and he retired in 1992 as the postmaster at Sarahsville. He was a member of the Sarahsville United Methodist Church, and he enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing darts, and watching NASCAR, especially Dale Earnhart, Sr. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by three sisters, Mary Ellen Kiggans, Mabel Smith, and Ruth Bates; four brothers, Chuck, Wilbur, Paul, and Bill Smith; and one step-son, Michael Joe Clark. Surviving are his wife, Virginia F. “Toni” Cantwell Smith, whom he married November 19, 1983; his children, Shannon A. Manning of Biloxi, Mississippi and Michael Ray Smith of Belle Valley; one step-son, Gerald Steven Clark of Sarahsville; one daughter-in-law, Brenda Bayley of Cambridge; one son-in-law, Kit (Hope) Manning of Mississippi; one brother, Donald (Maggie) Smith of Caldwell; 7 grandchildren, Michael C. Manning, Katy M. Manning, Josh S. Clark, Brittany J. Clark, Logan Manning, Sara Valentine, and Matt Clark; 4 great-grandchildren, Carter, Gabe, Lily, and Dakota; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Friends may call Monday, September 16, 2013, from 4-8PM at McVay-Perkins Funeral Home, 416 East Street, Caldwell, where the funeral service will be observed Tuesday, September 17th at 11AM with Pastor Frank McAtee and Pastor Thurman Harmon officiating. Burial will follow at Village View Cemetery in Sarahsville.
