Obituary for Ralph Eugene 'Gene' Ray
Ralph Eugene "Gene" Ray, age 74, of Cumberland, Ohio, passed away Monday, August 22, 2011, at the Morrison House in Zanesville, Ohio. He was born November 23, 1936, in Carrollton, Ohio, son of the late William Archie and Leona Ruth Blazer Ray. He was a 1954 graduate of Carrollton High School, and he served his country in the U. S. Air Force, where he learned his trade in electronics. Following his service, he employed as a supervisor for RCA in Cambridge for ten years until its closure, and then was employed by NCR in Cambridge for twenty-seven years until his retirement. He was a member of the Noble County Farm Bureau and the Ohio Sheep Improvement Association. He was recently awarded an Ohio Environmental Stewardship Award for his hard work and dedication to conserving his farmland. Gene adored his family and was extremely proud of all of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, who were all the joy of his life.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by one son, Ronald Thomas Ray; one sister, Doris Hineman; and three brothers, Robert Ray, Richard Ray, and Harold Ray.
Surviving are his wife, Carole Rayner Ray, whom he married in 1969; two daughters, Susan (Bret) Leonard of Cumberland and Regina (Ronald) Hewitt of New Smyrna Beach, Florida; three sons, Ralph (Hallie) Ray of Old Washington, Michael (Diane) Ray of Senecaville, and Shawn (Kim) Ray of Cumberland; five sisters, Mary Eileen Walters, Ruth Ann Tinlin, Helen Louise Rutledge, Norma Lou Rutledge, and Lois Jane Kirby; three brothers, Dale Arthur Ray, James Carl Ray, and Raymond Keith Ray; his former wife, Helga Nordmann Ray; 9 grandchildren, Dana Ray, Michael Ray, Tanya Ray, Anthony Pitt, Amanda Pitt, Duell Leonard, Etta Ray, William Ray, and Hannah Ray; 5 great-grandchildren, Levi Ray, Aubrianna Kennedy, Michael Ray, Emma Sayre, and Corey Walsh.
Friends may call Wednesday, August 24, 2011, from 1-3 and 6-8PM at McVay-Perkins Funeral Home, 416 East Street, Caldwell, where the funeral service will be observed Thursday, August 25th at 11AM with Pastor Jimmy Rogers officiating, and a veterans service will be conducted by the Noble County Veteran Service Organizations. Inurnment will be at Halley's Ridge Cemetery in Ava at a later date.
