Obituary for Melissa Alice Sowle
Melissa Alice Sowle, age 75, of Senecaville, Ohio, died Tuesday, April 29, 2008, at SE Ohio Regional Medical Center, Cambridge, Ohio. She was born May 29, 1932, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, daughter of the late Morris and Jessie Bardin Wardell. She was a graduate of the University of Oklahoma, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in education with a minor in history. She was a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority. Mrs. Sowle was formerly a licensed real estate agent in Texas, and she was a homemaker. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Texas, where she served as a deacon, and a member of the Presbyterian Church in Marietta, Ohio. She also served as a Sunday School teacher. She volunteered for Meals on Wheels in Marietta and Houston, and she was a volunteer in school libraries. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, and the Garden Club in Houston, for which she served as president. She served on various committees for the Stern Wheel Festival in Marietta. She was an excellent golfer and skier, and she enjoyed working in her garden and her yard. Surviving are her husband, John M. 'Jack' Sowle, whom she married in 1953; her children, Mark M. (Lesley) Sowle of Westerville, Dan W. (Diane) Sowle of Dalton, Massachussetts, Sandy L. (Marvin) Waley of Georgetown, Texas, and Shelly S. (Russ) Horton of Austin, Texas; one sister, Margy A. Dulin of Palm Springs, California; and eight grandchildren, Erica, Danielle, and Travis Sowle, Samantha and Sally Waley, and A.J., Audrey, and Lindsey Horton. No visitation will be observed. A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 3, 2008, at 1PM at the First Presbyterian Church, 523 North Street, Caldwell, with Pastor Ken Hyland officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimers Association, 4473 Glenn Highway, Cambridge, Ohio, 43725. McVay-Perkins Funeral Home is caring for the family.
