Obituary for Mary Svercek
Mary Svercek, age 89, of Belle Valley, Ohio, died Tuesday, February 8, 2011, at her home. She was born February 27, 1921, in Belle Valley, daughter of the late John and Elizabeth Hudak Bakos. She was a 1939 graduate of Belle Valley High School, and she retired as a teacher\'s aide from the Golden Rule School and GNC workshop. Mrs. Svercek was a member St. Nicholas Orthodox Church in Barton, and a former member of the Elevation of the Cross Russian Orthodox Church in Belle Valley, where she served as a trustee and where she was its last surviving member. She was also a charter member of the Belle Valley American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed baking, quilting, making rag rugs, and playing board games Trouble and Scrabble.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Charles C. Svercek, who died April 21, 1968; one sister, Elizabeth Ullman; and five brothers, John, Joe, Mike, Mathew, and Steve Bakos.
Surviving are her children, Illona Svercek of Reynoldsburg, and Tina Svercek, Mark C. (Karen) Svercek, Mathew (Diana) Svercek, and Maria E. Svercek Frank, all of Caldwell; four grandchildren, Stephanie Schott, Samantha Svercek, Mark Elijah Svercek, and Savannah Frank; two-great-grandchildren, Dylan Schott and Claire Schott; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call Thursday, February 10, 2011, from 4-8PM at McVay-Perkins Funeral Home, 416 East Street, Caldwell, where the funeral service will be observed Friday, February 11th at 11AM with the very Rev. Fr. Mateja Matejic officiating. Burial will follow at St. Michael's Orthodox Cemetery in Belle Valley.
