Mary Pearl Smith, age 71, of Columbus, Ohio, died Friday, May 24, 2019 at her home. She was born May 30, 1947, in Parkersburg, West Virginia, daughter of the late Edgar A. and Betty Lou Callihan Burch. She was a 1964 graduate of Shenandoah High School, and she attended business college in Jackson, Ohio. Early in her life, she was employed as a private secretary for a legal firm, and she was a homemaker. She formerly attended First Baptist Church in Caldwell. Mary enjoyed fishing, judo, sewing, gardening, crocheting, and camping. She loved being around children, and she was a beloved mother who was devoted to her family, especially her boys.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Robert Haden “Sandy” Smith, who died in January, 2018; two sisters, Louise Burch and Naomi Collins; and four brothers, Thomas, Dwain, Jon, and Gregory Burch.
Surviving are two sons, John David Smith and William H. Smith, both of Columbus; her siblings, William D. (Nellie) Burch of Cambridge, Stephen E. (Linda) Burch of Cumberland, Charles C. (Connie) Burch of Dexter City, Sue E. (Pauly) Heddleson of Cumberland, and Timothy S. (Sharon) Burch of Cumberland; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The funeral service will be observed Friday, May 31, 2019 at 1PM at McVay-Perkins Funeral Home, 416 East Street, Caldwell, with Ken Perkins officiating. Inurnment will take place at Hoskinsville Cemetery at a later time.
