Obituary for Mary H. Crum
Mary H. Crum, age 91, of Caldwell, Ohio, passed away Wednesday, November 25, 2020. Mary was born April 30, 1929, in Hamtramck, Michigan, daughter of the late Andrew and Fannie Yaremko, who were Ukranian immigrants. She was raised in Coal Ridge, Ohio.

Mary was preceded in death by her love of her life, Earl J. Crum, on April 7, 1976. Never a day went by without mentioning to her family their life together and his memory. Earl will welcome her wearing a yellow dress shirt with rolled sleeves, brown dress pants, and holding a yellow carnation, with a blue sky as blue as her father’s eyes.

She was also preceded in death by her sisters and brother: Anna Bovit, Mike Yaremko, Catherine Grochala, and Pauline LaGorda; and her close and dear friends, Dorothy Schott, Mary Niswonger, and Margaret Rine.

Mary is survived by her four boys, who helped her hair to turn gray, even though she would say, ”I would not trade them for anything in this world”: Karl (Jayne) Crum, Brian (Maria) Crum, John (Raeanne) Crum, and Paul Crum; her sister-in-law and assistant co-parent to her boys: Pauline Robey; her grandchildren: Kylie (Bill) Boyd, Daniel Crum, Jennie Crum, Ryan (Andrea) Crum, Andy Crum, Jessi Crum, Sydney Crum, Michael Crum, Matthew Crum, Nathan Burchard and Mary Bernowski; and her great-grandchildren: Bryn and Zane Boyd, Claire, Malcolm and Corrine Crum, and London Bernowski.

Mary loved Caldwell and had many friends. She could be seen socializing and drinking coffee with her friends at the restaurants in town. Mary had a strong religious belief and was very active at St. Stephen Catholic Church. She never missed a day without reading her daily Bible readings and Catholic Prayers. Other than her family, her greatest enjoyment was working at Sycon in Byesville and McDonalds, her home away from home. She enjoyed waiting on customers and seeing the regulars at her register.

Mary was known for her baking, cooking family dinners, and preparing Ukrainian dishes without reading a recipe. The family will miss having pierogi, holubtsi (cabbage rolls), pies, nut rolls, kielbasa with sauerkraut, cream puffs and Easter paska.

Friends may call Friday, November 27, 2020, from 4-6PM at McVay-Perkins Funeral Home, 416 East Street, Caldwell, where a vigil service will conclude visitation at 6PM. Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be observed Saturday, November 28th at 10AM at St. Stephen Catholic Church in Caldwell with Rev. Fr. Wayne Morris as celebrant. Burial will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Guests are required to wear face coverings and practice social distancing at all gatherings as required by the state of Ohio.
