Obituary for Mary E. Niswonger
Mary E. Niswonger, age 91, of Caldwell, Ohio, passed away peacefully Thursday, September 1, 2016, at the home of her daughter Jennifer, with whom she resided, surrounded by her loving family. She was born March 24, 1925, in Caldwell, daughter of the late Charles and Mary Bucek Sharkus. She was a 1943 graduate of St. Ursula Academy in Caldwell, and she was a homemaker and beloved mother to her family. During World War II, she worked at Republic Steel in Canton, and later at the Fern Restaurant in Caldwell. She was a member of St. Stephen Catholic Church in Caldwell and the Catholic Women’s Club. She loved caring for her family, and she enjoyed birds and flowers. She was a very loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and she was a devoted woman of faith. Her family was the light of her life.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband and the love of her life, Don A. Niswonger, whom she married August 19, 1947, and who died March 19, 2005; two daughters, Bonnie Jo Niswonger and infant daughter Patricia Niswonger; one granddaughter, Marla Mazgay; one sister, Anna Beardsley; and one brother, Charles Sharkus.
Surviving are her children, Vicki (Jim) Dovenbarger of Sharon, Connie (Brian) Curtis, Becky (Walt) Fry, Stephen Niswonger, Tim (Jane) Niswonger, Cindy (Rex) Green, Doug (Carolin) Niswonger, and Jennifer (Jeff) Croucher, all of Caldwell; her grandchildren, Trinda Mazgay, Gina Hesson, Angela Schafer, Amy Hutcheson, Elizabeth Muhlenkamp, Matthew Fry, Luke Fry, Stephanie Lee, Mackenzie Walters, Cassidy Niswonger, Danielle Plechaty, Kaeli Peoples, Kara Niswonger, Konnor Hummell, Lindsay Jenkins, Liza Green, Jessica Postlethwait, Emma Niswonger, Bradley Niswonger, Jordan Croucher, Jensen Croucher, Jade Croucher, and Jonah Croucher; her great-grandchildren, Marli, Stephen, Christopher, Kam, Calli, Derick, Abby, Maggie, Elle, Claire, Avery, Berkley, Lanie, Dominic, Braylon, Matyx, Talon, Paige, Aubrey, Ridge, Braun, Maebyn, Banx, Searcy, Brantley, Klairalee, and Radley; one sister, Wilma Gossman of New Albany; one sister-in-law, Frances Niswonger of Caldwell; her dear friend, Mary Crum; and her little dog, Jia.
Friends may call Monday, September 5, 2016, from 2PM-8PM at McVay-Perkins Funeral Home, 416 East Street, Caldwell, where a Christian Scripture Service will conclude visitation at 8PM. Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be observed Tuesday, September 6th at 10AM at St. Stephen Catholic Church in Caldwell, with Rev. Fr. Wayne Morris as celebrant. Burial will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Caldwell.
