Obituary for Martha S. "Peggy" Rogers
Martha S. “Peggy” Rogers, age 76, of Byesville, Ohio, passed away Saturday, February 20, 2016, at Genesis Hospital in Zanesville. She was born February 14, 1940, in Olive Hill, Kentucky, daughter of the late Chester and Jesse Patton Flannery. She was a 1957 graduate of Warren G. Harding High School in Warren, Ohio. She was employed over the years at an ice cream shop in Warren and as a daycare worker in Dalton. She was also employed by Kroger, Hamilton Beach-Scovill, and Summit Acres Nursing Home. Peggy assisted her husband with his ministries for the Free Methodist and United Methodist Churches in Ohio and Michigan, and she was a devoted woman of faith. She was a member of The Center – Free Methodist Church in Sarahsville, where she was instrumental in starting children’s ministries and junior church, and also for the Ava United Methodist Church. She enjoyed collecting Rembrandt angel plates, and she was an avid fan of the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Pittsburgh Steelers. Peggy loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and she loved to attend their sporting events, band events, and other activities.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by one son, Jimmy Lee Rogers, who died July 16, 1990; three sisters, Betty Sparks, Darlene Copenhaver, and Delores Barnes; and one brother, Bob Flannery.
Surviving are her husband, Rev. Jimmy R. Rogers, whom she married March 1, 1958; three children, Cindy A. (Martin) Van Scyoc of Sarahsville, Darla S. (Todd) Stewart of Caldwell, and William A. (Angel) Rogers of Cambridge; her siblings, Kenny (Helen) Flannery and Louann (George) Popescu, both of Warren; 8 grandchildren, Amanda (Tyler) DeVolld, Jared L. Van Scyoc, RyLee W. Rogers, Andrea L. Van Scyoc, Katlin B. Stewart, Noah N. Stewart, Chloe M. Rogers, and Regan A. Rogers; 2 great-grandchildren, Traxen and Haisley DeVolld; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call Thursday, February 25, 2016, from 2-4 and 6-8PM at The Center in Sarahsville, where the funeral service will be observed Friday, February 26th at 11AM. Burial will follow at Center Free Methodist Church Cemetery.
