Martha E. “Marty” Bettinger Swain, age 82, of Caldwell, Ohio, died Sunday, February 23, 2020, at her home. She was born February 20, 1938, in Caldwell, daughter of the late Clarence “Doc” and Lona Murrey Morrison. She was employed as the activity director at Summit Acres Nursing Home for 38 years, and she was a member of the Green Valley Church of Christ. Marty enjoyed quilting, cooking, baking, and working in her garden. She was devoted to her family.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Alfred E. “Butch” Swain, whom she married May 14, 1978, and who died April 4, 2018; one son, Tim Bettinger, who died July 13, 2004; and one step-son, Ronnie Swain, who died December 23, 2011.
Surviving are her children, Denny (Patty) Bettinger of Caldwell, Doug (Kelly) Bettinger of Caldwell, Theresa (Skeeter) Hamrick of Webster Springs, West Virginia, Bridget (Bob) Berens of Naples, Florida, Nita Cool of Dexter City, Dawn Bettinger (Mason Morris) of Caldwell, and Patsy (Butch) Warner of Summerfield; her step-children, Roberta K. McAfee of Caldwell and Rebecca S. (Michael) Hesson of Quaker City; her siblings, Pat (Jim) Stevens of Caldwell, Nancy Love of Cambridge, and Tom (Marilyn) Morrison of Summerfield; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Friends may call Tuesday, February 25, 2020, from 11AM-2PM at McVay-Perkins Funeral Home, 416 East Street, Caldwell, where the funeral service will follow visitation at 2PM with Jason Pierce officiating. Burial will follow at South Olive Cemetery.
