Obituary for Mack Bentley, Jr.

Mack Bentley, Jr., age 74, of Summerfield, died Sunday, February 5, 2006, at Select Specialty Hospital, Zanesville. He was born October 16, 1931, in Neon, Kentucky, son of the late Mack and Ada Franklin Bentley. He was an underground coal miner, having retired from Peabody Coal Company. Mr. Bentley was a Korean War veteran, having served with the US Army. He was a member of the Lake Erie Lodge #347 Free and Accepted Masons; Valley of Cambridge AASR 32nd Degree Mason; Aladin Temple Shrine; the Masterton Chapter #584 Order of the Eastern Star; Summerfield American Legion Post #415; Caldwell VFW Post #4721; the National Rifle Association; and the United Mine Workers, New Lexington. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by two brothers, his twin brother, Ike Bentley, and Ballard Bentley; and three sisters, Louise Hall, Ruby Smith, and Sally Taylor. Surviving are his wife, Peggy E. Hall Bentley, whom he married February 9, 1955; two sons, James E. (Susan) Bentley of Cambridge, and Mack Bentley, III of Kimbolton; one daughter, Mrs. Albert (Ruby L.) Schockling of Caldwell; two sisters, Mrs. Hank (Coleen) Flack of Winchester, Kentucky, and Mrs. Jim (Margaret) Manasco of Nicholsville, Kentucky; one brother, John R. Bentley of Palm Springs, California; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Friends may call Wednesday, February 8, 2006, from 3-5 and 7-9PM at McVay-Perkins Funeral Home, Caldwell, where the service will be Thursday, February 9 at 1PM with Pastor Helen Lewis officiating. Burial will follow at Eastern Cemetery, Summerfield, with military honors conducted by the Noble County Veterans Service Organizations. Masonic services will be held Wednesday evening at 6:30PM at the funeral home.
