Obituary for M. Joan Gant
M. Joan Gant, age 88, of Sarahsville, Ohio, died Thursday, July 22, 2010, at Cambridge Health and Rehabilitation Center. She was born September 10, 1921, in Senecaville, daughter of the late Ray and Mamie Murphy Dettra. She was a 1939 graduate of Senecaville High School, and she was a lifelong homemaker. Joan was a life member of the Noble County Historical Society and a sixty year member of the East Union Homemakers Club.She was also adevoted member of the Center Free Methodist Church in Sarahsville. Joan loved working with flowers and in her garden, and she had a love for antiques. She will be remembered for her delicious banana bread which shebaked and shared with her neighbors and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Marcus F. Gant, whom she married June 1, 1939, and who died September 12, 1999; and four brothers, Sam, Edwin, Danny, and David Dettra.
Surviving are three sons, Darrell (Judy) Gant of Cumberland, Ronald Gant of Cambridge, and Steven (Mary) Gant of Caldwell; one sister, Daisey (David) Jolley of Columbus; two grandchildren, Debra (Randall) Johnson of Sarahsville and Dianna (Tim) Cox of Cumberland; four great-grandchildren, James (Lindsay) Perkins and Brandi Jo Perkins, both of Sarahsville and Maala and Kaala Cox, both of Cumberland; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Friends may call Friday, July 23, 2010, from 5-8PM at McVay-Perkins Funeral Home, 416 East Street, Caldwell, and from 10-11AM at Center Free Methodist Church in Sarahsville, where the funeral service will follow at 11AM with Pastor Nate Gibbons officiating. Burial will follow at Center Free Methodist Church Cemetery.
