Obituary for Luther B. Crites, Sr.
Luther B. Crites, Sr., age 87, of Reinersville Ohio, formerly of the Portage Lakes area of Akron, died Sunday, November 18, 2018, at Marietta Memorial Hospital. He was born September 30, 1931, in Birch River, Nicholas County, West Virginia, son of the late Corley and Maggie Mullins Crites. He was a United States Army veteran, having served in Trieste, Italy, during the Korean War from 1952-1954, and he retired from PPG Industries in Barberton. Luther attended the Reinersville United Methodist Church, and he was a life member of American Hunting and Fishing Clubs. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, vegetable gardening and being outdoors. Luther was devoted to his family.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Shelva Jean Foster Crites, whom he married July 19, 1958, and who died May 14, 2002; one brother, Calvin Crites; and one sister, Opal Houghton.
Surviving are his son, Luther B. "Luke" (Sandy) Crites, Jr., of Fort Mill, South Carolina; two grandsons, Kyle and Bradley Crites of Rock Hill, South Carolina; and many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call Tuesday, November 20, 2018, from 5-8 PM at McVay-Perkins Funeral Home, 416 East Street, Caldwell, where the funeral will be observed Wednesday, November 21, 2018, at 11AM with Pastor Jim Porter officiating. A military graveside service will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Parkersburg, West Virginia, conducted by Parkersburg American Legion Post #15.
