Obituary for Lura Salyers
Lura Salyers, age 94, of Caldwell, Ohio, died Monday, November 15, 2010, at Summit Acres Nursing Home, Caldwell. She was born November 5, 1916, in Penn Twp., Morgan County, Ohio, daughter of the late Addison P. and Bertha E. Gooding. She was a homemaker, and she retired as a cafeteria manager for Montgomery Ward in Chicago, Illinois. She was Methodist by faith, and she enjoyed making quilts, growing flowers, and traveling. Lura was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her first husband, Russell McLaughlin; her second husband, John Salyers; one daughter, Thelma Kesselring; two sons, William and Robert McLaughlin; two grandsons, Rusty Kesselring and Jay Lee McLaughlin; one sister, Etta Wade; one brother, Lawrence Gooding; and three brothers who died in infancy.
Surviving are one daughter, Bernice "Bugs" Reed of Belle Valley; one son-in-law, Robert Kesselring of Illinois; ten grandchildren, Debbie Reed of Columbus, Carrie Wells of Caldwell, Ron (Roxanne) Reed of Sarahsville, Jeff (Nalva) Reed of California, Tod Reed of Belle Valley, Emil "Tip" (Tammy) Reed of Pleasant City, Sherry (Steve) Brown of Belle Valley, Louise Copeland of Canton, Russ (Linda) Kesselring and Doug Kesselring, both of Illinois; 18 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends.
Friends may call Thursday, November 18, 2010, from 2-4 and 6-8PM at McVay-Perkins Funeral Home, 416 East Street, Caldwell, where the funeral service will be observed Friday, November 19th at 11AM with Ken Perkins officiating. Burial will follow at Reinersville Cemetery.
