Lucinda M. “Cindy” Bates, age 85, of Summerfield, Ohio, formerly of Lancaster, passed away Thursday, October 12, 2023, after an extended illness. She was born May 30, 1938, near East Union, daughter of the late William and Zella Shaklee Clark. Cindy was a dedicated and caring wife, mother, and grandmother. She married her husband, David, on October 13, 1956, and together they raised six children. She was a long-time member of the Lancaster Church of Christ and later the Summerfield Church of Christ.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her sisters, Susan, Karen, and Barbara.
Cindy is survived by her husband, David; her children, Daniel (Molly) Bates, Rebecca (David) Ramsey, Bradley (Mariana) Bates, David (Krista) Bates, Barbara White, and Dennis (LeAnn) Bates; two sisters, Margery Hennen and Teresa Kinnan; one brother, William (Mary) Clark; 16 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call Wednesday, October 18, 2023, from 2-6PM at McVay-Perkins Funeral Home, 416 East Street, Caldwell and Thursday, October 19th from 10-11AM at the Summerfield Church of Christ, 602 E. Cross Street, Summerfield. A memorial service will follow visitation at the church at 11AM. A private burial will be observed by the family at East Union Cemetery at a later time.
