Obituary for Lucien Collins Young, Jr.
Lucien Collins Young, Jr., age 86, of Zanesville, Ohio, formerly of Caldwell, died Saturday, April 22, 2017, at Genesis Hospital in Zanesville. He was born March 9, 1931, in Cambridge, son of the late Lucien C. and Mary Helen Racey Young. He was a 1948 graduate of Caldwell High School, and he was a 1952 graduate of Ohio Wesleyan University, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree and where he was a member of the Theta Deutron Chapter of Phi Gamma Delta fraternity. He was a 1959 graduate of Ohio Northern University School of Law, where he earned his Juris Doctorate. Lucien was a United States Air Force veteran during the Korean Conflict, during which he flew reconnaissance missions as an F-86 fighter pilot. In 1959, he started practicing law with his father in Caldwell. He served as the Noble County prosecuting attorney for 16 years and as a Noble County Court judge for 19 years. He also served as the village solicitor in Caldwell for 41 years. He was a life member of the Caldwell VFW Post #4721, a longtime member of the Cambridge Country Club, and he was a former member of the Caldwell United Methodist Church. He attended the Mt. Sterling United Methodist Church in Zanesville, and he was a faithful supporter of the Mt. Sterling Food Pantry. He loved golfing, especially with his Wednesday morning golf club friends, and he was an avid storyteller. He was proud to have lived a life of service to his community.
Surviving are his wife, Patricia A. Shuey Young, whom he married July 14, 1995; his children, Julia J. Hall, Lucien C. “Edsel” (Denise) Young, and Jennifer “Fred” (William) Parrish, all of Caldwell, and Jessica J. McIntire of San Diego, California; his step-children, Bethany (Patrick) Renaud and Michael T. Wagner, both of Zanesville, and Matthew D. (Kensington) Wagner of Richmond, Virginia; 6 grandchildren, Bryan Postlethwait, Renae Clippinger, Rachel Anderson, Holly Shepherd, Adam Parrish, Meghan McIntire, Lauren Renaud, Will Renaud & Sophia Wagner Hatcher; and 9 great-grandchildren.
Friends may call Tuesday, April 25, 2017, from 2-6PM at McVay-Perkins Funeral Home in Caldwell, where the funeral service will follow visitation at 6PM with Pastor Ronald Griffin officiating. A veteran’s service will conclude the service, conducted by the Noble County Veteran Service Organizations. Inurnment will take place at Olive Cemetery in Caldwell at a later time.
