Obituary for Leo Daniel "Dan" Mazgay
Leo Daniel “Dan” Mazgay, age 67, of Caldwell, Ohio, died Tuesday, November 19, 2019, at his home. He was born January 31, 1952, in Zanesville, son of the late Leo J. “Lobby” and Rose Ann Mesarchik Mazgay. He was a 1970 graduate of Shenandoah High School, where he played football, basketball, and ran track. He retired from the Dana Corporation following over 30 years of service. He was a member of the Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Belle Valley and the Caldwell VFW Post # 4721. Dan was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching the Ohio State Buckeyes and the Cleveland Indians. He loved watching his granddaughter play sports, and he enjoyed travelling with his daughter and son-in-law, Stacey and Bryan. He also enjoyed gardening.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Rebecca Susan Johnson Mazgay, who died September 15, 2019; and one brother, John J. “Butch” Mazgay.
Surviving are his daughter, Stacey L. (Bryan) Smith of Purcellville, Virginia; two grandchildren, Madison M. R. Smith and Cameron E.B. Smith, both of Purcellville, Virginia; his siblings, David S. (Catherine) Mazgay and Mark A. (Tina) Mazgay, both of Sarahsville, Monica R. Mazgay of Belle Valley, and Melissa A. (Mark) Ginn of Caldwell; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Friends may call Saturday, November 23, 2019, from 1PM-3PM at McVay-Perkins Funeral Home, 416 East Street, Caldwell. The Ohio State Buckeyes football game will be showing during visitation. A memorial service will follow visitation at 3PM with Rev. Fr. Wayne Morris officiating. Inurnment will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Ross Heart Hospital at Wexner OSU Medical Center at www.wexnermedical.osu.edu.
