Obituary for Lawrence E. "Larry" Askew
Lawrence E. “Larry” Askew, age 51, of Strasburg, Ohio, was called home to be with the Lord Friday, May 2, 2014, at Aultman Hospital in Canton. He was born January 11, 1963, in Santa Clara, California, son of the late Eugene Herschel and Joan Daily Askew. He was a 1981 graduate of Central Hower High School in Akron, and he was a United States Army veteran, having served his country for three years. He was a graduate of the Akron Police Academy, where he was OPTA certified, and he completed his training at the Cuyahoga County Sheriff’s Office. He was retired from the Lorain Correctional Institution, where he was employed as a corrections officer and a transportation officer. He was formerly employed by Brinks Inc. in Massillon, and he was currently employed by OSS Securities at the GE plant in New Philadelphia. He was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church in Barberton, and he was also a member of the Free and Accepted Masons, Coventry Lodge #83, Akron, and the Fraternal Order of Police. He was an avid hunter, and he enjoyed fishing, cooking and barbequing, riding four wheelers, watching movies, and traveling. He also loved kids, and he loved his family, especially his children.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by one step-daughter, Jennifer D. Hickman; and one brother-in-law, Joe Smith.
Surviving are his wife, Lori A. Stack Askew, whom he married January 31, 2005; three children, Zachary Lawrence Askew, who is serving with the U. S. Army in North Carolina, Emily Ann Askew of Barberton, and Jacob Edward Askew, serving with the U. S. Army in Missouri; two step-daughters, Amanda N. (Danny) Spencer of Caldwell and Brooke Hickman (Devin Perry) of Massillon; one grandson, Liam S. Spencer; two sisters-in-law, Louise Smith and Lisa (Danny) Leasure, both of Caldwell; and his mother and father-in-law, Marilyn and Dave Carsey of Caldwell.
Friends may call Monday, May 5, 2014, from 9AM-1PM at McVay-Perkins Funeral Home, 416 East Street, Caldwell, where the funeral service will follow visitation at 1PM with Pastor Aaron Bounds officiating. A military graveside service will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Caldwell conducted by the Noble County Veteran Services Organizations.
