Obituary for Lavonna Merritt
Lavona Merritt, age 98, of Massillon, Ohio, formerly of Caldwell, Ohio, died Tuesday, June 19, 2007, at Bethany Nursing Home, Canton, Ohio. She was born September 1, 1908, in Caldwell, daughter of the late Joseph Ernest 'Curley' and Ceola Dutton McKee. She was a homemaker and a member of the First Baptist Church, Caldwell. She also attended the Caldwell Free Methodist Church, where she was active in many groups and activities. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harry L. Merritt, who died March 25, 1996; one sister, Pearl Smith; and two brothers, John and Denver McKee. Surviving are one daughter, Hilda (Ronald) Pfouts of Massillon; a sister-in-law, Gladys McKee of Caldwell; three grandchildren, Jeff (Lisa) Pfouts of Magnolia, Doug (Brenda) Pfouts of Salem, and Ann (Willis) McCoy of Waynesburg; 6 great-grandchildren, Justin, Emily, Cody, and Katie Pfouts and Nathan and Alex McCoy. Friends were received Thursday, June 21, 2007, from 6-8PM at McVay-Perkins Funeral Home, Caldwell, where the funeral service was held on Friday, June 22 at 1PM with Dr. Gerald Bates officiating. Burial was in Olive Cemetery, Caldwell.
