Obituary for Larry L. Bunting
Larry L. Bunting, age 62, of Caldwell, died Tuesday, August 16, 2005, at his home follwoing a courageous battle with cancer. He was born February 8, 1943, in Beaver Twp., Noble County, son of the late Rodney and Florence Stephen Bunting. He was a 1961 graduate of Quaker City High School, and enlisted im the US Army from 1961 to 1964, serving two years in Germany. He was a paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne stationed at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. He was a retired state trooper with the Ohio Highway Patrol, having served over 31 years, stationed in Marietta, Cambridge, and District 7 Posts. He was a resident patrolman in Noble County for 14 years. He served as president and vice-president of the Eastern Troopers Lodge District 7 and FOP Lodge #152 for 12 years. He was president and vice-president of Troopers for a Safer Ohio. He was on the combined board for the Ohio Troopers Coalition and vice-president of the Ohio State Troopers Retiree Association. Larry was an avid supporter of Special Olympics, having served as coordinator for the Marietta to Columbus leg of the Law Enforcement Torch Run for the Special Olympics for 13 years. In 2003, he was chosen to represent Ohio in the final leg Torch Run Journey across Europe, and he participated in the opening and closing ceremonies at Athens, Greece, and Dublin, Ireland. He participated in the Polar Bear Plunge for Special Olympics in Ashtabula for nine years, and was instrumental in implementing the Buying With Bears Program at Christmas for the area. Mr. Bunting was also a Seneca Lake Park ranger for three years and a substitute bus driver for Caldwell Exempted Village Schools. He was also an auxiliary patrolman for the Caldwell Police Department. He was a member of the Belle Valley American Legion Post #641; a member of the honor guard for Caldwell VFW Post # 4721; and a member of the Caldwell United Methodist Church, where he served as a trustee. In addition to his parents, he in preceded in death by a sister-in-law, Joanne Carpenter. Surviving are his wife of 38 years, Connie Meighen Bunting, whom he married February 19, 1967; two daughters, Mrs. Russell (Betina) Lang of Marietta and Mrs. Sean (Amber) Sweeney of Columbus; twin granddaughters, Morgan and Madison Lang; one sister, Bonnie Patterson of Pleasant City; one sister-in-law, Mrs. Karl (Shirley) Olnhausen of Cambridge; several nieces and nephews; and he was known as 'Dad' by many special friends. Friends may call Thursday, August 18, 2005, from 2-9PM at McVay-Perkins Funeral Home, Caldwell, and from 9AM-11AM Friday, August 19, at the Caldwell United Methodist Church. Services will be conducted Friday at 11AM at the church with Pastor Gary Fitzgerald officiating. Burial will follow at Olive Cemetery, Caldwell, with military honors conducted by Belle Valley American Legion Post #641 and Caldwell VFW Post #4721. Memorials may be made to the Ohio Special Olympics. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
