Obituary for Kay S. Halliburton

Kay S. Halliburton, age 81, of Zanesville, Ohio, passed away Tuesday, March 20, 2018, at Genesis Hospital in Zanesville. She was born October 12, 1936, in Austin, Bexar County, Texas, daughter of the late Gilbert Mitchell and Angie Belle Lovelace Halliburton. She was a 1954 graduate of Sunset High School in Dallas, and she was a graduate of North Texas State University in Denton, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English as well as a Master’s Degree in Literature from North Texas State University. She taught high school English, and progressed to teaching college literature. She later became a vocational counselor until her retirement. She was an avid tennis player and a competitive bowler, having competed in amateur bowling tournaments. She also loved playing pool and working the Sunday New York Times crossword puzzles. Kay loved to paint with oils and make crafts, having been very skilled at sewing and upholstering. She was a ferocious reader and she enjoyed playing Bridge. She also enjoyed fishing, gardening, and being outdoors. She was an incredibly intelligent and active woman who raised her children, Mitch and Shereen, on her own in Texas.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by one sister, Barbara.

Surviving are her children, Mitch (Kitrina) Mazaher of Zanesville, Ohio, and Shereen Boysen of Galveston, Texas; one sister, Gail (Joseph) Bowers of Balsam Grove, North Carolina; four grandchildren, John Boysen, Jr., Sarah Boysen, Cole Mazaher, and Madigan Mazaher; 3 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her most beloved companion, Sparky, who will be adopted by her good friend and neighbor, Jane.

As per Kay’s wishes, there will be no service. Cremation will be observed and her ashes will be taken to her favorite place, Belize, where they will be released into the ocean. McVay-Perkins Funeral Home, 416 East Street, Caldwell, is caring for the family.
