Obituary for June Huffman
June Huffman, age 94, of Macksburg, Ohio, died Monday, October 13, 2014, at Heartland of Marietta. She was born December 20, 1919, in Flora, Illinois, daughter of the late Nola Mitcherson Stanford Miller. She retired in 1981 from the U.S. Postal Service, having served as postmaster at Macksburg for 30 years, and she was a member of the National Association of Postmasters of the United States. She was also a member of St. John’s Evangelical Church in Lowell, and a member of American Legion Auxiliary Post #418 in Dexter City for 60 years. Mrs. Huffman was also a homemaker. She enjoyed eating patty melts from the D & E Drive Inn in Macksburg, taking car rides, traveling to Florida, and playing the organ. She also enjoyed baking, and her specialty was peach custard pies. June spent many years at Heartland of Marietta where she was loved by all, and affectionately known as “June Bug”.
In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lyle Huffman, who died in 1958; her step-father, Walter C. Miller; two sons, Brian Lee Huffman, who died in 1983, and Michael Ross Huffman, who died in 1990; and her beloved dog and traveling companion, Susie.
Surviving are two grandsons, Jason Huffman and Todd Huffman; and her pastor, guardian, and special friend, Jim (Suzie) Fernihough of Lowell.
Friends may call Wednesday, October 15, 2014, from 11AM-1PM at McVay-Perkins Funeral Home, 416 East Street, Caldwell, where the funeral service will be observed Wednesday at 1PM with Pastor Jim Fernihough officiating. Burial will be follow at Lund Cemetery in Macksburg. The family would like to thank the staff at Heartland at Marietta for their special love and care.
