Obituary for John R. Christmas
John R. Christmas, age 82, of Sarahsville, Ohio, died Wednesday, September 7, 2016, at his home. He was born October 27, 1933, in Gibson County, Indiana, son of the late Carl and Daisy Mae Showers Christmas. He was a 1951 Cynthiana High School in Cynthiana, Indiana. He was a retired oil field worker, and he also farmed. Mr. Christmas was Baptist by faith, and he enjoyed riding and raising horses and riding motorcycles. He loved his family.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Clara Penrod Christmas, who died in 1987; two sons, Darvin Christmas and Roy Dwayne “Tuffy” Christmas; one grandson, Joey Christmas; and four brothers, Kurt, Paul, Robert, and William Christmas.
Surviving are his children, John A. (Lori) Christmas of Newcomerstown, Dale Christmas (Seena Baker) of Belle Valley, and Jeffrey D. (Tabitha) Christmas of Sarahsville; one sister, Stella Murphy of Indiana; three brothers, Jim Christmas of Carmi, Illinois, Kenneth Christmas of Newcomerstown, and Tom Christmas of Kimbolton; 17 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; many nieces and nephews; and special friend, Jeff Smith, of Princeton, Indiana.
Friends may call Sunday, September 11, 2016, from 1PM-4PM at McVay-Perkins Funeral Home, 416 East Street, Caldwell, where the funeral service will follow visitation at 4PM with Pastor Bill Pickenpaugh officiating. An inurnment service will be observed Saturday, September 17, 2016, at 11AM at Olive Cemetery in Caldwell. An online guestbook may be signed at www.mcvay-perkins.com
