Obituary for John Dale Rayner
John Dale Rayner, age 86, of Caldwell, Ohio, went to be with his Lord and Saviour on Sunday, August 5, 2012, at his home surrounded by his family. He was born January 16, 1926, in Ava, son of the late Charles and Etta Lyons Rayner. He was a proud United States Army veteran, having served in Germany during World War II. He retired from Central Ohio Coal Company following 33 years of service as a dozer operator and foreman. He was also the owner of J. D. Rayner Excavating. He enjoyed family cookouts at Lake Elizabeth, taking his dog, Tad, for rides on his golf cart, farming, woodworking, and restoring Farmall tractors. He loved the Lord and worshipped many years at First Church of Christ in Caldwell and Faith Baptist Church in Belle Valley. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by an infant son; three brothers, Jim, Luther, and Hansom Rayner; three sisters, Beulah Anderson, Sarah Hurst, and Hazel McCune. Surviving are his loving wife of 65 years, Betty J. Wood Rayner, whom he married February 1, 1947; four daughters, Nancy (Jeff) Drake of Baltimore, Ohio, Cindy Rayner of Cumberland, Carolyn (Mike) Waite of Cumberland, and Marilyn (Dana) Bond of Caldwell; nine grandchildren, Dee Drake, Christa (Greg) Graves, Kendal (Cliff) Lahrmer, Kenzi (Tyler) Schafer, Kory Waite, Heather (Jeff) Harding, Kristen (Lance) Buckey, Jenna (Ryan) Starr, and Brett Bond; ten great-grandchildren, Addison Drake, Tayler, Parker, Mason, and Hayden Graves, Kaleb and Kamry Lahrmer, Emri Schafer, Aliyah Harding, and Kyler Starr; and many nieces, nephews, dear friends, and his beloved dog, Tad. Friends may call Wednesday, August 8, 2012, from 4-8PM at McVay-Perkins Funeral Home, 416 East Street, Caldwell, where the funeral service will be observed Thursday, August 9th at 11AM with Pastor Dale Hunt and Lynn Zerkle officiating. A veteran’s graveside service will follow at Halley’s Ridge Cemetery conducted by the Noble County Veteran Service Organizations.
