Obituary for Jewell Irene Baker
Jewell Irene Baker, age 91, of Caldwell, Ohio, died Wednesday, October 1, 2014, at her home. She was born June 8, 1923, in Harriettsville, daughter of the late Howard and Clara Miller Ullman. She was a graduate of Harriettsville High School, and during the 1950s, she was employed several years by Cleveland Graphite Bronze and was active with the family businesses, Baker Motor Sales and Service and the Caldwell Roller Rink. In the 1970s, she was involved with the Caldwell PTA. Mrs. Baker retired as director of Peoples Bank Corp in Marietta and was named director emeritus there. She retired from B&N Coal Company, Inc., where she held many offices. She was Lutheran by faith. She was a member of the Amazon Chapter #30, Order of the Eastern Star for over 50 years, where she was past worthy matron. She was an active supporter of Noble County 4-H and the Noble County Junior Fair Livestock Sale. She also enjoyed setting up displays and helping at the Floral Hall during the Noble County Fair.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Carl L. Baker, Sr., who died December 23, 1981; and one brother, Lloyd Ullman.
Surviving are one son, Carl L. (Susan) Baker, Jr. of Caldwell; three grandchildren, Benjamin Dominic Baker, Anna, and Marshall; one sister-in-law, Thelma Ullman of Marietta; one niece, Linda (Robert) Mesnard of Frazeysburg; two nephews, Dwight (Vickie) Ullman and Dale (Joann) Ullman, both of Marietta; her faithful dog and companion, her shih tzu, Fluffy; and the companions and caregivers through the years from Interim Home Health Care of Cambridge.
Friends may call Saturday, October 4, 2014, from 11AM-1PM at McVay-Perkins Funeral Home, 416 East Street, Caldwell, where an Eastern Star service will begin at 1PM followed by the funeral service with Chaplain Bob Sinnett officiating. Burial will follow at Olive Cemetery in Caldwell.
