James E. Berry, age 68, of Lower Salem, Ohio, died Thursday, November 5, 2015, at Marietta Memorial Hospital. He was born May 14, 1947, in Parkersburg, West Virginia, son of the late James E. and Maryagnes Schwender Berry. He was a 1966 graduate of Belpre High School, and he was a United States Navy veteran, having served in Vietnam. He retired in 2008 from DeGusa Carbon Black in Belpre, and he was a member of Ogles Ridge Church, where he formerly served as a church trustee. He was also a life member of the Marietta VFW Post #5108. Mr. Berry enjoyed working with guns and working in his tool shop, and he loved spending time with his grandchildren.
Surviving are his wife, Louise Harriman Berry, whom he married May 15, 1982; his children, James E. (Wendie D.) Berry, III, of Chesterhill, K. Jeremy Mendenhall of Belpre, Jodi L. (Chad) Dobbins of New Lexington, and Julie Renee Lauer (Brock Rogers) of Lower Salem; his siblings, William E. Berry of Belpre, Thomas P. (Cindy) Berry of Marietta, and Sussanne Smith of Florida; 13 grandchildren, James, Alisha, Brayden, Daniel, Meranda, Chayse, Tori, Mara, Cordelia, Ashton, Haley, Jasmine, and Shannon; several nieces and nephews; and several cousins, inclusing Dorothy (Hershel) Jones of Wheeling, West Virginia.
Friends may call Sunday, November 8, 2015, from 12PM-2PM at McVay-Perkins Funeral Home, 416 East Street, Caldwell, where the funeral service will follow visitation at 2PM with Rev. Fr. Wayne Morris and Pastor George Clark officiating. A veteran’s service will be conducted by the Noble County Veteran Service Organizations.
